John Richard Warner
1947 - 2006
John Richard Warner, 59, of Houston, Texas passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday,
September 24, 2006. He was born on July 15, 1947 in Centralia, Illinois, son of Elwood and Marion
(Kammerer) Warner. He is survived by his wife, Wei Zhao, his parents, Elwood and Marion Warner, his
sister, Kathy Bishop, two daughters, Marcie Warner and Stacie Warner, one grandson, Jordan Warner, one
niece, Alishia and her husband James Winkler and two great nephews, Gavin and Dominick Winkler. John
received his B.S. with honors and M.S. in Geological Engineering as well as an honorary Professional
Degree from the University of Missouri at Rolla. He served on the Alumni Advisory Academy and the
Corporate Advisory Board. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and numerous honorary
fraternities. John was a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. He started his career as a
Petroleum and Geological Engineer with Tenneco Oil Company. In 1975, he joined Ryder Scott Company
where he became Executive VP, Director of International Operations and a member of the Board of
Directors. In January 2004, he joined Ralph E. Davis Associates, Inc. as Senior Vice President. During his
career, John was the Chairman of the Gulf Coast Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and
member of several national committees as well as the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers,
American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Houston Energy Finance Group and Houston Producers
Forum. In addition, he co-authored “An English-Chinese & Chinese-English Oil and Gas Reserve
Calculation Dictionary” and “The Role of the Independent Reserve Consultant in the Oil and Gas Energy
Industry”.
Over thirty years experience providing expert advice to investor groups, supervising security exchange filings, performing and supervising field and development studies, acting as an expert witness in litigation matters and meeting the technical needs of various international oil and gas industry companies.
A University of Missouri at Rolla graduate in Geological Engineering with Bachelors and Master degree as well as a Professional Degree and a licensed engineer in Texas. He began his career in the exploration and development business with Tenneco Oil Company and joined the consulting field with Ryder Scott company in 1975. He left the firm in 2003 as executive Vice President and Director of International Operations. He joined the firm of Ralph E. Davis Associates, inc. at the beginning of 2004.
John Warner was involved in the evaluating of oil and gas projects through all phases of exploration and development throughout the world. He has advised national oil companies and international operators in their daily operations and long term financial decisions.
He will be truly missed.
